Molduga

The Molduga is the great beast of the desert. Also known as the "Whale of the Sands", the Molduga is a monster that somewhat resembles a giant brown fish. It swims through the desert as if it were water and strikes its victim from beneath. While the Molduga is blind, it has exceptional hearing. By hearing the vibrations in the sand, it can pinpoint the exact location of its prey from up to 200 feet away. It can move at a top speed of 20 mph, and its powerful back fin allows it to breach up to 15 feet into the air.   While a highly dangerous predator, the Molduga is prized for the medicinal properties of its liver. High in many vitamins and nutrients, the Molduga's liver can be used to treat a multitude of ailments such as abdominal pains and fever, but it is most commonly used as an anti-venom for alvoii venom. Besides the liver, the fins can be used as a strong base for certain elixirs, and it is the main ingredient in a particular drug that is becoming popular among the Gerudo as a "party enhancer".

Basic Information

Anatomy

Molduga anatomy and bone structure resembles that of a shark. They have a large back fin that they use for breaching, as well as for defense, as well as two, feet-like appendages that they use in tandem with their fin to quickly move through the sand. They have large, extended chins that they use to break the sand and a sloped head, both of which aid in their movement. Their jaws are lined with two rows of sharp teeth that grow back as quickly as a shark's when lost for their exclusively carnivorous diet.

Ecology and Habitats

These creatures are only found in the desert and can survive in blistering temperatures of 120°F. However, they prefer to spend the majority of their time underground, only coming up for air, prey, and to warm themselves (they are cold-blooded).

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Molduga's favorite prey are sand seals, but they have been known to eat desert snakes, birds, coyotes, and when the opportunity presents itself: people.
