Wizards: Altered Physical / Metaphysical Law in The Lands Unbound | World Anvil

Wizards: Altered

Wizards function relatively similarly to the fifth edition rules. Mechanically, the only difference between fifth edition and this is the Forbidden Knowledge, as stated below. Wizards gain acess to the greatest number of these spells. Besides this, the only thing a wizard in The Lands Unbound must be aware of is their place in society. In most places, including Anyimelle, wizards are used for their abilities often to protect, build, or repair things within the city. They are under heavy surveillance, and the spells in which they are permitted to use are severely limited. In order to become a wizard, it is necessary for you to get into Manith, the Institute of the Arcane in Anyimelle. Often students are only accepted at a very young age, and trained intensely for a majority of their lives. There are a select few other places across the Lands that may teach wizards, but in most nations it is illegal to wield magic in non-official settings. There are, of course, several secret teachers of secret techniques found in the fringes of society, but if any of that would ever be discovered, annyone involved would most likely be executed.

Magical Artifacts:

Wizards, being an established part of society, are often granted access to a country's magical resources, including magical items. Usually a nation's vault will contain these items, and they will be used to enhance a wizard's abilities when necessary. Additionally, the highest ranking wizards are sometimes trained to create magic items. They usually are created with dwarven smithing, and some powerful rituals and spellcasting.
