Session 8: The Meteorite's Truth

General Summary

The party resumes their trek along the path and comes across a royally dressed man and his overturned cart, with its contents spilled across the ground. Approaching him, they notice his eerie calmness and condescending manner of speech. He speaks in rhymes and poems, raising their suspicions. Suddenly, the man snaps his fingers, and the party finds themselves in a hall filled with an exorbitant amount of food. He recites a poem detailing Belial's plan to obtain a powerful stone and use it to burn the world, as well as the Demon Abyzou's intent to clash with Belial to plunge the world into the void. The man reveals himself as Korus and claims to have a personal stake in the situation. He offers to transport the party to the meteorite instantly, giving them a chance to prevent the artifact from falling into the wrong hands, in exchange for acquiring a specific artifact from the city of Camavor.   The party finds this deal insufficient and demands one question each to sweeten it. Korus agrees, and the party signs his contract. Each member asks a question, which Korus answers quickly, displaying his vast knowledge of the world. After answering their questions, he snaps his fingers, disappears, and the party finds themselves back in the forest with a flaming portal leading deeper into the woods.   Stepping through the portal, they spot the meteorite, with the vampire they had met earlier to their left and a group of soldiers led by Cagne Ondo to their right. A similar flaming portal forms in front of them, through which Belial, the Flame of Ruin, enters, commanding the party to wait behind. Chaos ensues as each group darts for the stone. The vampire reaches the stone first, but a massive Asteroid Spider attacks her. Belial impales her multiple times before the spider finishes her off.   Jaque teleports to the meteorite and activates two Arcane Detonation Spheres, but fails to dodge Belial's attacks. He is impaled twice and split in half by Belial's bare hands before the explosion vaporizes himself, Cagne Ondo, and the vampire. Belial remains unphased. As Belial reaches for the stone, Thoralf sneaks in and stops time upon contact. Testing its abilities, he finds the energy overwhelming and throws it. The party rushes for it, and Belial commands Buzzbee not to chase after it. Effortlessly, Belial spreads his wings and swoops in for the stone. Surging with energy, he attacks Amara multiple times with his Ranseur, swiping away her Mirror Images. He finally lands a hit on her, which she narrowly survives, and shatters her psyche with a Symbol of Insanity. Announcing his victory, he disappears.   The group discusses the fight and the events that transpired. Jaque is permanently dead, and Buzzbee, feeling guilty, reads the scroll given to her when she was younger. It reveals a warning from her mother about her father, who plans to use her to take over the world by obtaining all five stones of power to slaughter Veil, the Goddess of Shadow, and then the world uninhibited. Buzzbee shares this with the group and vows to sever the connection with her father. The party agrees to help her, and they rest.
