Lazu

Representing the forces of chaos, change, and upheaval, Lazu is often seen as the great enemy of society. They are calamity and disruption. Lazu is associated with every sudden tragedy that can befall a civilization: violent unrest, natural disasters, death, plagues, and economic instability.   Lazu and their twin, Diel, once walked together on the material plane. Their friendly rivalry gradually descended from trickery, to malice, to outright war. The land was locked in brutal divine combat for many years. Each deity commanded hosts of celestials and mortal champions into battle until Lazu eventually succumbed to defeat -- but not before critically wounding Diel.   This resulted in both deities leaving the material plane: Lazu was banished to some otherworldly prison, and Diel retreated back to the Upper Planes to heal.   For Olimandias and most of Verden, Lazu is the shadowy villain who drags mortals down a path of cruelty and hedonism. It is a popular belief that Lazu will one day break free of their prison and divine war will return to the land. But this may be a simple religious tale to scare the public into obedience.     There are some heretical beliefs that suggest Lazu is not inherently evil. They suggest the forces Lazu represents are integral to nature, even if they may be harmful to civilization. A forest blooms anew after a wildfire. Revolutions depose tyrants. Disaster, perhaps, is a kind of rebirth. But such talk will start drawing the suspicious gaze of the many paladins of Olimandias.

Tenets of Faith

  • Fight against tradition to forge your own identity.

Holidays

Most of Verden:
  • Wraithguard: 1st of Winter. The spirits of the dead are restless on this day, and so society takes off work to honor their deceased relatives, tend to their graves, and perform religious ceremonies to renew the barriers between the material plane and the realms beyond.
  Strictly in the Labyrinth:
  • Rites of Indulgence. 20th of Autumn. All work is halted for hedonistic indulgences. Feasts, excessive drinking, drug use, sex, and even community orgies.
