Buttercup is a teddy bear construct enchanted by a young prodigy wizard. Though the wizard in question has since grown up and eventually passed away, Buttercup remains as a semi-sentient teddy bear that has become the mascot of one of the University of Solimé's dorms. The students in the dorm, in true college fashion, have taken to giving "gifts" to Buttercup, placing him on high and central platforms within their dorm, and throwing parties for his "birthdays". The magic that made Buttercup sentient has all but faded away, and he is essentially just a normal teddy bear with an interesting past and magic that makes him a bit less destructible.
The Enemies of Buttercup
A few faculty of the university think that the traditions surrounding Buttercup are ridiculous, childish, and silly, and a few have tried to get rid of Buttercup, citing him as a "distraction to the students' studies". However, though many have tried to remove him from the premises, every time they do, Buttercup simply turns up back in the students' dorm building the next morning. It is unclear if this is due to students finding him and bringing him back, or if the magic that Buttercup was enchanted with has caused this. Regardless, the faculty that are against Buttercup are not particularly happy about this. The Magic of the Bear
Buttercup does seem to have some residual magic, however. On one occasion, a particularly upset professor stormed into the dorm with the intention of ending this once and for all. They wanted to cast dispel magic to remove any chance of the bear returning itself to the dorm, and bring it across the continent to dump it in the ocean where none of the students would be able to retrieve it. However, when the professor wanted to cast dispel magic on the bear, a counter-spell powerful enough to block this magic occured. None of the students that were in the room at the time would have been able to counter the professor's magic.

I want to love Buttercup, even though he is a manifestation of one of my fears. But the faculty should leave him alone, he's doing no harm!

fun fact he's based on one of my old character's animal companions!
