Lezai so Nos, translated to Memory of Home, is a traditional song played and/or sung at funerals in Dostros. The song, written in the nation's home togue of Desrunic, reflects its culture's views of death. To Dostrans, after a person dies, they remain with those who remember them, ever-present but never seen.

History

The song was created by an unknown singer, their name and story lost to history. Passed down through the generations, it underwent many changes and regional variations to tune, lyrics, and even verses. It was never written down, as the song was seen as sacred, and so as it spread it changed through misremembered lyrics or forgotten melodies, until the songs in one city were completely different from the songs in another. In the modern day, a person from the western side of Dostros would not even recognise the song sung by an easterner, unless they were to hear the name of the song.

Participants

There is a single person at a funeral who is tasked with singing Lezai so Nos, and while this person can be one of the mourners, it is more often a trained singer who performs the song. There is no backing music, no instrumentals, and the crowd does not join in on the singing at all. In some regions, the song is performed twice: once by the official performer, and then once with the rest of the attendees joining into the song.

I love the idea that the song has changed while being passed down - that's a phenomenon that's so easy to forget. The fact that you included the actual song is very impressive!
