The Martyr of Oradia was a young woman who lived in the modern-day Reunic city of Orandia, before Vorogo was conquered. Her image is well-known in the city, but due to Reunic restrictions, her name has been lost to time.

History

The Martyr of Orandia is said to have been an ordinary young woman who grew up in Orandia, one of the larger cities in the Vorogan territory of Reuni, during the Reunic War of Conquest that occured from 249 A.G.W. to 256 A.G.W. She was not special, nor particularly popular, within Orandia, raised by a widowed mother and studied in embroidery. She most likely had orc heritage, though appears as a human in most depictions.

As the story goes, the Martyr of Orandia was the only person in Orandia who was willing to stand up against Reunic invasion, when Orandia was at risk of being burned to the ground, all of its residents driven away. The town had given up hope, but when the Martyr of Orandia was killed in cold blood by Reunic soldiers, unarmed and defenseless, the rest of the town was inspired to fight for their home. Though the town did still end up occupied, it was saved from total destruction, and thus the legend of the Martyr would live on.

Since her death, there have been many statues and paintings made of the Martyr of Orandia. The Reunic offices established in the town forbade the telling of the story, and banned any depictions of her. Despite this, the story was passed down through the generations, and though the Reunic restrictions did cause her name to be forgotten, art of her would continue to be made, and her image was never lost. She currently has a statue in the town hall, though it spends much of its time underneath a large tarp.

Heresy to the God-Queen

In recent years, the Reunic government has creacked down further on mentions of the Martyr of Orandia, going so far as to put government officials in charge of running schools, health establishments, and most other public institutions. They claim this is due to a "rising heretic faith in an idol", that idol being the Martyr of Orandia.

There has been some push-back from the residents of Orandia on this, though not nearly enough for it to stop. In fact, the resistange against these motions have only caused the Reunic government to tighten their fist around Orandia, and as a result, the majority of the population live in fear. There are a high percentage of citizens in poverty, houses abandoned because the families living inside of them can no longer afford housing.

A Divided Village

There are still those in Orandia who relay the story to others, but other parts of the town have begun to grow bitter towards these folk, beliving their actions to be the reason for their current struggles. Though the former argue that the government of Reuni would be doing this anyways, the latter believe that it would be nowhere near as bad as it is currently if the story was simply forgotten. However, those who still tell her story insist that it is a crucial part of the village's history, as Orandia would not be here without her.

Foreign Administration

Since the recent Reunic crackdown, a Reunic nobleman by the name of Caisimir Armannis of Meidal, has been placed in a position of administrative oversight in the village. Opinions on him are heavily split, with many wanting to overthrow him, a vast majority who fear him, and some who believe he is an abominable snake of a man but that there's nothing that can be done of it. Very few people from Orandia view him in a positive light. However, as Lord Armannis spends most of his time at his primary estate in Meidal, the town does not have to see much of him. His influence on the village is still incredibly clear, though, even without his presence.

A great little slice of history. It's a shame her story is being suppressed, even though the details have been lost to time.
