The Ravenguard are an elite force of royal guards protecting the Mestranian royal family. They wear masks, never showing their faces, and keep to the shadows, not alerting anyone (sometimes including the royals themselves) to their presence. They have also historically been used as assassins for the crown.
Composition
Manpower
At any given point, there are only around 20-25 Ravenguards. Recruiting and monitering of members is done by the Ravenmaster, while vetting of members is often done by palace staff.
Equipment
The Ravenguards are equipped with light armour and ranged weapons, allowing them for silent movement and the ability to strike from afar. They are provided with tools that allow them to move around unnoticed, sneaking in and out of places unseen. They are best suited to observe the royal they are protecting from far away, striking preemptively at any perceived threat. This also allows them to dispose of enemies to the crown that may not have come out of hiding had the guards been more visible - though, this secondary benefit is less effective as the Ravenguard have become more known.
Training
Before becoming a Ravenguard, one must go through excessive vetting and training. They are subject to multiple background checks as they learn how to perform all of their necessary duties, and are interviewed while under the effects of a truth serum and a truth spell, to ensure their loyalty to the crown. Children of existing Ravenguards are often selected to be Ravenguards, as it eliminates some of the variables of upbringing.
The families of the Ravenguard are heavily monitored, to ensure that they are not working against the crown.

History
The Ravenguard were formed first as a group of assassins for the royalty of Mestrania. After an indicent involving the previous royal guard force being found to be entirely corrupt, however, the Ravenguard were repurposed to serve both their original duties, as well as protect the crown. The train of thought was that people willing enough to sign up to kill in the name of the royalty were loyal enough to guard them with their lives. It was at this point that the Ravenguard were named that, changing their original name of the Ravenstrikers.
What cool shadow Royal guards. I love how they became that by if you're willing to kill for the Royal family you should be capable to protect the Royal family. what a fun read.
thank you!
