Long ago, the most unholy of unions resulted in a beast that defiled nature. The product of a devil and a demon, this creature came into the world a harbringer of destruction. A being of immense power, and it was hungry. It tore its way out of the abyss, wreaking havoc on the hells. It was not long before it made its way to the material plane. Towns razed and hundreds killed, the mages banded together to set a trap for the creature. They lured him into a planar rift, and cast him into the void, where he would remain trapped eternally.
Until, at least, his cult-like following would attempt to free him.
Historical Basis
This myth is based around Oughrethas, the fabled child of Lyrveld and Teaanor, archdevil and greater demon respectively. The pairing of two forces to violently opposed caused what has been described as an affront to nature, a being of cosmic horror, an abomination of life itself.
Spread
The myth was first recorded not long after the God War, and though it was originally told as a story of warning, it has since morphed into a children's story where "good" is triumphant over "evil". In reality, sealing the creature into the void only delayed its threat, rather than removing it. If the being were able to return, steeped in void energy, it would be completely immune to all magic, perhaps even able to harness the void itself - on top of its immense power from its heritages.
Cultural Reception
The majority of the population is at least somewhat familiar with the myth, though most see it as only that - a myth. Few know that it is based in fact, and even fewer know that the creature within the myth poses any real threat.
In Literature
The abomination has been depicted literary retellings of the myth, often dramatisized or converted into novel- or play-format. There have been a few performances of the story of the abomination, with various details or edits to make it more digestible or interesting to a wider audience.

Well... let's hope that it stays sealed. Sounds like it would cause a lot of trouble if it were to be unleashed. I love that most people don't really know that the origin of the myth is fact though.
