Void entities are a mysterious sort of monster, of which appearances have cropped up significantly more often in recent months. Taking a variety of different forms, though there are patterns between them, the connecting thread between these beings is the influence of the void coating their bodies. They phase in and out of existence, failing to maintain a true grasp on the world, as the void between the planes calls them back to it.
Appearance
While there are a vast amount of different types of void entities, they all share a few common traits. They appear desaturated, of greys, black, and white. They are somewhat transparent, shifting into and out of corporeality - if you look hard enough, you can see the landscape behind them, their bodies never fully anchored. While some appear more humanlike, others have additional sets of arms or heads, and some float like mist. Some have serpentine bodies, slithering across the ground, while other have an ever-present mist or chill surrounding them. They always look as though they are melting, with a hazy air about them. Their most unnerving feature, however, is always their eyes - peering into the eyes of a void entity instills a sense of dread, of emptiness, of despair. This is the most dangerous trait of the void entity, as it causes those who make eye contact to lose their will to fight, their will to live. It is at this moment that the void entity strikes.Types of Void Entities
There are a great many different types of void entities, and it would be difficult and time-consuming to list them all. They can, however, be categorised. Separated by their power, measured by the level of emotions they cause in those around them, there are four "levels".Origins
Void entities, in their current state, are a relatively recent phenomenon, though the planar void is known to have existed since the creation of the Planes. While there were a few void entities sighted before this year, almost all of them appeared near-identical to one another. There were those with liquidic forms, that made gurgling, drowning, noises; there were those that hummed a never-ending, droning, single-note song; and there were those that floated everywhere, with arms forever reaching upwards, longing for something well out of sight. The recent and countless new forms that the void entities have been taking have led some to wonder if these are a new evolution in their form, or if there are simply new and more void entities. Others have propose that these types of void entities have always existed, but are only recently coming out of the woodwork.Frequent Appearances
Regardless of what they are and where they are coming from, the modern influx of void entities causes the question to arise of why so many of them are showing up as of late. The also-recent appearance of significantly more planar rifts than is normal has led many to believe the two phenomena are in some way connected - the only question, of course, is how. It is unclear if the number of rifts that have formed in the past year is because the void entities are attempting to force their way into the planes, or if this number of rifts is making it more possible for the void entities to find themselves on the planes. Regardless of what came first, these occurances are causing a feedback loop; more void entities are causing more rifts, which is in turn causing the appearance of more void entities. While the most popular theory is that the rifts were created by void entities trying to force their way into the planes, the question still remains: why. If the void entities are causing the rifts, why are they suddenly interested in the planes, when they were mostly benign before? Or, if the rifts are causing the appearance of more void entities, why are there suddenly so many more rifts?
