The Fireborn

Originally coming from tribes living on the nearby volcanic islands, they were often picked on by opportunistic slavers. Unfortunately some of their own more ruthless members decided to capitalize on this, selling unwanted tribesmen to the slavers when they anchored in the bays, trading their lives for weapons and boats to repeat the process on their neighbors. The Compact has claimed several of these islands, using them to break in slaves before selling or shipping them to the colonies, though their number one customer has always been the Imperium. Though they are restricted from learning, they bring along with them a rich oral culture and complex theology that stands up to modern religions, though mostly their new masters are interested in the fact they are already adapted to the climate.
