Inspired from the Game of Thrones formula, I am using historical events loosely to build a grounded world. One of the major differences is the lack of magic or magical creatures, I prefer to present myth but also have a logical explanation ready for inquisitive players so the world doesn't feel too silly to exist. To alleviate some commitment time to prep work before a campaign I've also tried to keep the naming of things simple. I used Mesoamerica as my inspiration for the region, with nations and tribes struggling to gain dominance over the land. The story will follow the major events that lead to a cultural and scientific renaissance, the discovery of a lost history a millenia old, and the journey of a slave of ancient lineage on their ascent to becoming ruler of a great nation. I have a lot of work to do, but we will be using 5e when I run the one shot to introduce the world. Then I will break the larger story into several campaigns designed for returning and new players alike.
