History
In the year 4 of the Imperial Record, Khemit was conquered and became the cornerstone of the Hyperborean Empire in Libynos. When the Hyperboreans withdrew from Libynos in 2632, Pharoah Amyrtalos V began to rule Khemit as if an independent Kingdom. As a distant vassal for nearly two thousand years, the Khemitians assumed a return of the Hyperboreans and never formally declared their independence. Centuries later, a surge of political corruption kept the kingdom from being able to mobilize and resist Overking Yurid as his armies landed in 2960. Control was reasserted and the political corruption was (mostly) rooted out, bringing Khemit and the valuable Pharoahs canal back into the rule of the Foere crown.
In recent years under the rule of Overking Ovar, control over the Kingdom of Khemit has once again lapsed, but Khemit responded to the Overkings request for aid and sailed an armada to aid the Imperial Navy against the Huun Imperiums war fleet. Many Khemitian Ships were lost and thousands of their soldiers met a watery grave, but the Huuns fleet was sunk and eventually the siege of Bards Gate was lifted. Many in Khemit were unhappy with this turn of events. They received no compensation for their aid, and many lost loved ones at sea that fateful year.
The Overking Arrives at Khemit
With Overking Reynalds crowning, he began by reasserting his control over many of the remaining subjects still ruled by the Foere Monarchy. In Blotmond of 3520, he sailed east with a large armada and landed on the shores of Khemit.
The Khemitian people were not receptive of the Imperial troops, who treated them as if a conquering force and not as subjects within the same empire. The Overking and his armies sailed up the Stygian river to the capital of Thybos and met with the child Pharoah Ptolemy and Pothinus, the kings regent, in the cities government district. His soldiers paraded down the street as a show of force, and resentment began to build in the populace.
The Overking demanded tithes and aid for the crown to assist in his efforts for reunification, which he planned to use to pay off many of his debts and to finance his upcoming military endeavors. Ptolemny tried to protest, but was unwilling (and unable) to resist the Overkings demands. He set about collecting increased amount of taxes from the people and loaded a tremendous amount of coin into a hulking river barge. The Overking then kept the pharaoh in the district with him as his "honored guest", though many could tell this was a veiled threat and they were actually keeping their Pharoah hostage until the tithe was collected.
Many on the outside recognized this, and Pothinus organized a covert mission to get Ptolemny back. Under the cover of darkness and with the Overking distracted, Ptolemny was taken and the civil war had begun.
Khemitian Civil War
Almost immediately arms were taken up and thousands of soldiers descended upon the government district. Many of the populace itself resisted the increased taxes to fund a foreign kings wars and eagerly took up arms against the Foere invaders. The capital district was besieged, and before the Overking could use some form of magic to escape, the Pharoahs High Heka was able to create a barrier around the entire capital district, no magic was able to penetrate in or out. The Overking and his forces found themselves trapped and besieged.
Not all on the outside were on Ptolemnys side, however. Many saw the child king as the puppet for which he was, and recognized that Pothinus was the one pulling the strings. Others wished nobles to form a republic like overseas, while others thought that his sister Khepri had a better claim to the throne. While the Heka was able to keep the barrier up, the Overkings forces and wizards were able to keep the attackers at bay and a standoff ensued. Attempts to break out were met with hostility and the siege lasted through the winter.
During this time, many refugees fled Khemit for other lands. Those who were loyal to the Overking were purged by Ptolemys forces, some left fearing they were next. Some feared that the Overking would win and punish the peoples of Khemit for this transgression. Others went about their daily lives, hoping for a peaceful resolution.
It is now 3521, and the Overking has been trapped for months in a foreign land, and many in Khemit and beyond wonder when and how it will end.
Conclusion
The conclusion will be written later, as I would like to use this as the backdrop for a campaign some day and as such am keeping it open. Thanks for reading!
