Solanus is a sun goddess from the time of the old Hyperborean empire. Where other solar deities embodied the sun's wrath, she represented the healing power of the its radiant warmth. With the multitude of sun deities she was not a widely worshipped Goddess after the fall of the old Empire, but she can be found in few places across Akados. In Freegate where the worship of the Hyperborean Gods continues to thrive, there still exists a large temple to Solanus, and in Endhome a fledgling temple continues her worship. To the far north where remnants of old boros can still be found, her faith has sprouted in many human settlements. It's not certain whether her faith migrated from the south with the people who now inhabit these lands, or if it was rekindled during archaeological finds. Whatever the case, her worship has resurfaced in the northern realms. The sixth day of the 10 day week is known as Solday after the Sun Goddess. Many of Solanus's faithful see her decline as the natural cycle of the sun. With the poles shifted the sun has set on her old domain, and in time it will return as bright as ever. It isn't surprising that in the arctic regions where sunlight and warmth are scarce her worship thrives. The healing magic of her faithful aids the northerners against the many threats the tundra regions face, and the warmth and healing helps them battle against the unending cold of the northern winters. Priests of Solanus often serve as medics in armies, or as healers in villages and small towns. They are also some of the most typical adventuring clerics, as their skills are always in need in dangerous situations. Solanus encouraged her worshipers to seek out evil rather than let it fester, and her faithful were often the ones leading the charge into danger. Solanus was depicted as a beautiful women clad in white robes. She is usually smiling, and it is said that to gaze upon her likeness will bring good fortune upon the viewer, and that it will ward off illness. Other depictions of her showed her wielding a sword and clad in plate armor. This rare painting can be found at the Temple to Solanus in Freegate, and shows her side by side with Thyr and Muir in a battle against evil. While it is only speculated upon who the author may have been, this depiction has caused some Paladins and Clerics of hers to see her as a battle goddess. Other more obscure art has surfaced depicting her with the body of an owl or surrounded by owls, though its not clear if this is truly an aspect of hers or not. Worship of Solanus involved action more than mere offerings, though they weren't discouraged. Typical offerings would include burnt incense, grapes and silver. A festival to worship her name was a time for mending and healing. During these joyous events, food and drink would be served and it was encouraged to forgive past grievances, to aid others in their troubles and to appreciate what one has.
