Some believe her still alive, perhaps trapped for millenia in some unknown tomb or artifact. Others think her slain, while other scholars believe her ascended as a demi-god. More than 3600 years ago the first Hyperboreans led by Polemarch Oerson descended from the continent of Boros into the Northlands, and down into the heart of Akados. After years of desperate battle against the Hyperborean phalanxes, the elves suffered defeat after defeat. Before the great elven alliance that was broken at lake Crimmormere, the elven princess Azarial sought out the dark powers of her Goddess, Morrigan. It is said she noticed a swirling stain in the air around her, a mark of some dark, unfathomable power. The power meant more to her, a means of vengeance, a way to strike back at the humans that invaded her realm, killed her kin and chopped down their sacred groves. But it required sacrifice. She believed that by sacrificing one of her Hyperborean captives she would gain the power of her God. She stood before the altar, She was betrayed, her heart blackened, and turned into the first vampire. In her rage, she slaughtered her entire tribe, turned her daughters into her minions of incredible power, and raised an army of the dead. Despite her power, she was freshly spawned and had a weakness for light. She also sought vengeance in haste, and did not take the time to build up her armies or legions of undead properly. And the elves responded in kind, for the great elven hosts had been gathered to defeat the Hyperboreans. But first they set on Azarials horde. No records exist from that day, for all of the warriors who fought in the battle were either slain or later killed at the battle of Crimmormere when the dwarven hosts unleashed their surprise assault. Some say she was slain, others that she fled into the Harwood Forest and remains there to this day. Some worship her as the first vampire, the rightful queen of the elves and the betrayed one. Others think she ascended and worship her as a Goddess, believing her the true Goddess of the night that will one day surplant Morrigan and Hecate.
