Taxes and Fees

The following are taxes and fees under the Akadian Pact.

Saltmarsh Port Tariff

All dangerous goods passing through a port under the control of the Akadian shall pay a Tariff of 5% of the assessed value of the goods. • Monsters/Animals
• Volatile Substances
• Other dangerous Materials
• Magical goods

Saltmarsh Crimes and Punishment

Crimes are usually handled by the town guard. If it is something more serious, it is handled by a judge which are appointed by the council. These are done bi-weekly after the Council Hall meeting. There is one judge for every two council members, currently two.
There can be an appeal in which case you are brought before the other judge. If a sponsor (Gentle) sponsors you, then the last appeal can be done before the Council themselves. These Trials are all public

Petty Crime

Penalty: Reprimanding by the Guard, a fine of 0-50g + the damage or stolen property, and/or one day of hard labor per piece owed.
Examples: Crimes up to 50gp in damage.
• Public Brawling
• Assault
• Pickpocketing
• Vagrancy
• Minor Trespassing
• Public intoxication
• Excessive Noise
• Littering
• Hindering the Town Guard
• Fraud
• Unlawful Flight over the Town
• Building without a permit
• Failure to repay debt
• Indecent Conduct

Minor Crime

Penalty: Fine of up to 1000gp, up 0-10 years in prison or forced labor/Rehabilitation
Example: Property crime between 50gp and 1000gp
• Armed Assault (nonfatal attack, threats)
• Unarmed assault involving injury
• Blasphemy
• Threatening/bribing a Gentle or official
• Theft or killing of livestock
• Tax dodging
• Unlawful Trespassing (major)
• Impersonating a guardsmen or city official
• Harboring Fugitives
• Repetition of lesser offenses

Major Crime

Penalty: Asset Seizure, repayment, up to 20 years imprisonment (rare), or death penalty (by hanging)
Example: Damages in excess of 1000g
• Assault involving Mutilation/Crippling
• A Crime involving unlawful use of magic
• Slavery and Trafficking of Intelligent Humanoids
• Rape
• Murder
• Piracy
• Arson
• Repetition of lesser offenses
• Torture
• Assassination or Attempted Assassination
• Treason to the Akadian Pact
