Drevok's Spine

Spanning the entire length of Isturoth is the largest mountain range on the contient. Due to its geological position (pushed together between several tectonic plates) the most severe natural disasters take place here, and the epicentre is where the landmass is pushed together with the most pressure, creating the unstable range known as Drevok's Spine.

Geography

Drevok's Spine contains the highest peaks in Isturoth. It also contains the most destructive geological activity in the region. For much of the Spine's length, its rocky slopes are plagued with frequent earthquakes, landslides, avalanches and volcanic eruptions. The mountain range is virtually uninhabitable by Isturians, save for a few unique settlements that co-exist with the natural disasters that render it such a dangerous place to live.

Ecosystem

The natural ecosystem varies greatly along the spine. Frequent geological movements often means that plants and animals have no time to settle in, however the volcanic deposits leave a lot of fertile ground which is ripe for vegetation. This leaves many regions a battlefield between the forces of nature to establish dominance.

History

Early in Isturoth's founding, the Spine was singled out and named after Drevok, the god of time and stone. It is they who slumber beneath the mountains and hold fast against the uncontrolled fury of Jokhosh, the god of primordial instinct, forever tunnelling through the hallowed stone of the mountains and disrupting the peace of the earth. This is commonly thought to be the cause of the destructive natural disasters that occur on the surface. And so, the mightiest and most dangerous mountain range in Isturoth was named in their honour.
