Frostwhisper Glacier
In the most frigid and icy peaks of Isturoth, glaciers are not an uncommon sight. Sometimes also called the "Silent Tide", the Frostwhisper Glacier is the largest of its kind seen in the The Ironstone Mountains. It is at a perfect location to flow from valley to valley, slowly engulfing all that lies below it. It is a slow and quiet destructive force, one that can't be held at bay.
Geography
Originating from an area of the "icelands" (the mountainous zone with the highest altitude and greatest percentage of ice and snow), the glacier is backed by a massive amount of collected ice and snow, which now slowly makes its way down the slopes of the mountains and flows into the network of valleys below it, like rainwater runs off a roof.
The slow landslide of frost gradually overtakes anything in its path, including farms and towns.
History
In ancient times, almost all of Isturoth was blanketed in ice and snow. As the position of the continent shifted and the climate began to heat up, much of it melted and formed the rivers and lakes found throughout the mountains. Despite this, pockets of frost remain at high altitudes and basins formed by the peaks.
Gradually, the collected ice and permafrost broke free and began its long slide down through the various valleys and ravines.
There are at least 3 towns which have been affected by the slow rampage of the glacier over the centuries. Towns that would never have assumed the glacier would reach them were proven wrong and were left devastated and abandoned. The expansion of the glacier has negatively impacted trade, travel and industry, and disrupted the lives of many as it continues to devour land.
