Imperial Lizards

Also called "pocket lizards", these creatures are the product of generations of Isturian Lizard Breeding. Over centuries, the upper classes and nobility (Širan) of Isturoth have made a sport out of the breeding of lizards to be smaller and have a wide variation of features, colours, scale patterns, tail lengths, and so on.   Imperial lizards originally started out as the much larger, wilder variations of rockhide lizards or the flightless wyrmling. Mutations in the breeding process, as well as cross-breeding with smaller variations of lizard have resulted in a creature that is pet-sized, one that is easy to carry around or lead on a cord or chain.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Usually around spring/summer, lizards will enter a period of "heat", whereupon they can be impregnanted. After a batch of eggs has been laid, usually 3 to 6, they need to be incubated for around 2 months.

Growth Rate & Stages

Lizards will normally take a year to mature. By this point, feathers, horns, and other unique features will have come in and they will be fully-grown. After this, they can live for anywhere up to 10-12 years.

Ecology and Habitats

Domesticated Imperial lizards have developed to be able to stay indoors and many breeds have grown accustomed to a life of luxury. That being said, there are still plenty of sub-species that feel comfortable living amongst the rocks and caves of the wild.   Many Isturians consider keeping an Imperial lizard to be a useful way to keep pests out of the home, as they are apt at catching bugs and vermin. However, domestication has come so far that there are lots of lizard breeds that are (for the most part) depending on people to keep them fed on a pre-bought mixture of proteins, fibre, and nutrients.
