Royal Steel

In the modern age of High Metallurgy, the people of Isturoth have developed their smelting abilities to the point of being able to refine iron where it is almost pure. Being free from impurities, the iron is mixed with an assortment of other metals to create an allow that is completely resistant to rust and decay.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Royal steel is often shiny and reflects light well, even with a matte/unpolished finish. It is dense and heavy, moreso than iron by itself.

Physical & Chemical Properties

While in individually-smelted units, it can be smelted down at extremely high temperatures and re-smelted into new shapes using moulds of metal, clay or sand. In any form, Royal Steel resists any effects of the weather such as rust and corrosion, but is also easy to clean of mould.

Compounds

Iron has been purified to extremely high standards and mixed with other metals found in Isturoth that give it its density and unique properties.

History & Usage

Manufacturing & Products

Royal steel is most commonly used in High Metallurgy, to create weapons and armour, but also tools, particularly farming tools. It is also starting to see some use as a construction material. Since its inception, industrial manufacturing has exploding in Isturoth, as more and more applications are being found for such a sturdy and incorruptable metal.   Royal steel was used to make double-edged blades that were forged in three layers – a layer of steel with a layer of iron on each side. It was the optimal method of fashioning blades that would continue to sharpen as they were worn out.   As steel becomes easier to mass-produce with the invention of modern furnaces, there are constantly more applications being found for Royal Steel. This includes things like carts, machines and even furniture and ornaments. It's strength and longevity is greatly valued in an ever-progressing culture.
