Temple of Barud

As the god of domesticity and the "home" (a sacred and significant concept in Isturian culture), Barud is the personification of comfort and safety. As such, their temples must reflect this.   The temples are known all across the mountains for being more than just places of worship; they are homes for the homeless, sanctuaries for those who seek refuge. Their hearths burn brightly and there is always food cooking.

Purpose / Function

All temples of Barud need to accommodate those who seek the comforts of home. To this end, they are the most common shelter for the homeless, a people supremely looked down on by society. Those without a home are seen as 'less-than' due to their vagrancy, and the temples of Barud do their best to help this downtrodden group. Most temples come equipped with beds and dining halls, sometimes baths, to accomodate the homeless population in addition to the areas of worship and ritual-observing.   Almost every temple dedicated to Barud will have a large hearth or bonfire, along with a chimney and ventilation that carries warmth to the entire complex. Either using these sources of fire or additional kitchens. there is always food being prepared, both to feed the homeless and congregation, and to supply offerings to Barud inside the church and potentially other shrines in the same town or city. These consist of primarily well-seasoned soup, bread, and meats but can also include seafood, dumplings, and grilled or roasted vegetables.

Sensory & Appearance

Entering one of these temples needs to be an evocative experience. In contrast to the icy weather outside, the temples are always warm and cosy and the air smells of delicious herbs and spices, to give one the feeling of 'home'.
