Elysa Emberborn

The Burnt

Elysa is the current ruler of the Emberborn kingdom. She is the sixth ruler of the house since the dynasty and its consorts put down roots in Rubellite. Elysa was still young when her reign began after the sudden death of her mother Margret, but she tries her utmost best to follow in her footsteps and hopes to one day become equally loved and respected by her people. While most of the common folk love Queen Elysa, her leadership is not without opposition. Especially among the nobility, there are those that question the validity of her rule, as her rise to power was during a time of great turmoil ( The Maladred Calamity ).

Rise to power

She was elected during a now-famous 11 hour hearing of the High Flame Assembly which was originally organized to determine the cause and legality of a massive battle between the Emberborn, Mapleheart and Mistral forces at the reach. During this battle, four thousands of Emberborn soldiers perished, among which several younger exalts. In addition, the word had spread that several members of other royal families of the Valley had also been slain. The Commander General of the Emberborn armies, her great uncle Maladred, had returned to the capital to defend this unauthorized assault by stating that it was an act of retribution in order to avenge the assassination of queen Margret and her husband.   Not much is known about what actually went on during the meeting, but the official story is that Maladred went beserk after proving unable to convince the High Flame Assembly of his point of view. He claimed that the death of the queen, his niece, hadn't been due to natural causes, but rather that she had been poisoned by Fyn, youngest son to king Wallace MapleHeart. As the story goes, Fyn, had been courting the crown princes for a while, but during a certain public event queen Margret had embarrassed him in front of the entire Rubellite nobility. Maladred claimed that Fyn, leveraging his insider knowledge and access to the palace in the process, had the queen murdered out of spite.   These accusations were however eventually rejected by the assembly and in a fit of rage, Maladred murdered almost half of the attendees, gravely wounding Elysa in the process. Apparently, Elysa threw herself in front of a section of the bench, blocking-off part of the inferno from devouring the people that were seated there. Maladred was eventually defeated by the royal guard and all the members of his personal retinue were banished. Quickly thereafter, Elysa was crowned queen and bestowed the difficult task to rebuild the bridges set ablaze by her great uncle.   To this day there are those that doubt the official version of events. Maladred was one of the greatest warriors and sorcerers that Valley had ever seen, and no one present in the capital could have matched his prowess. In addition, the universal support for Elysa among the surviving assembly members was met with suspicion.

Identifying Characteristics

Elysa received horrific burns that covered most of her back during her encounter with Maladred. But instead of letting the healers tend to her, she chose to wear them as a badge of honor. During an official event, Elysa will most of the time be wearing an open red dress, laced with gold accents.
