The Lyrian Empire
15, 3rd Quarter, 923 ME
The Empire is composed of what were previously a handful of independent nations, each conquered in some fashion by the titular country of Lyria. To the north of the Dragon's backbone (a large mountain range) is Sarene, home to both humans and dwarves. Lyria itself, which makes up the bulk of the continent has a variety of landscapes, with mountains and forests to the north and farmland and harbors to the south. The forested country of Ezaterra, home of the elves, and the desert plains of Ihalimid lie to the south. The Eastern Sea is dotted with islands which, while technically part of the Empire, function more or less independently. To the west lies the great impassable expanse known simply as "The Wastes." It is rumored that various nomads travel through its treacherous landscapes, tough no one can say for sure.
While now common, magic was said to have been almost non-existent before the start of the Empire, and it is even said that those suspected of dabbling in mysticism were often persecuted and put to death.
Whispers of unrest in the north and disappearances in the forests have started to make their way to the Imperial City as of late. While the Empire has flourished for many centuries, a wind of uneasy change has started to sweep over its borders.
