Half-orc

Stat Block: Half-orc

The warchief Mhurren roused himself from his sleeping-furs and his women and pulled a short hauberk of heavy steel rings over his thick, well-muscled torso. He usually rose before most of his warriors, since he had a strong streak of human blood in him, and he found the daylight less bothersome than most of his tribe did. Among the Bloody Skulls, a warrior was judged by his strength, his fierceness, and his wits. Human ancestry was no blemish against a warrior—provided he was every bit as strong, enduring, and bloodthirsty as his full-blooded kin. Half-orcs who were weaker than their orc comrades didn’t last long among the Bloody Skulls or any other orc tribe for that matter. But it was often true that a bit of human blood gave a warrior just the right mix of cunning, ambition, and self-discipline to go far indeed, as Mhurren had. He was master of a tribe that could muster two thousand spears, and the strongest chief in Thar.
— — Richard Baker, Swordmage
Though they are now mostly accepted amongst other races, Half-Orcs have gone through a lot to get where they are. They are still the race with the highest population in criminal lifestyles, as that was what they turned to over the prosecution at living a normal life. The large amount of growth happening in The Maelstrom Isles grants a great deal of honest and dishonest work, and Half-Orcs have integrated well with both.
ability score increase: Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Constitution score increases by 1.
age: Half-orcs mature a little faster than humans, reaching adulthood around age 14. They age noticeably faster and rarely live longer than 75 years.
alignment: Half-orcs inherit a tendency toward chaos from their orc parents and are not strongly inclined toward good. Half-orcs raised among orcs and willing to live out their lives among them are usually evil.
Size: Medium
speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Languages: You can speak, read, and write Common and Orc. Orc is a harsh, grating language with hard consonants. It has no script of its own but is written in the Dwarvish script.
race features:

Darkvision

Thanks to your orc blood, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Menacing

You gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill.

Relentless Endurance

When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead. You can’t use this feature again until you finish a long rest.

Savage Attacks

When you score a critical hit with a melee weapon attack, you can roll one of the weapon’s damage dice one additional time and add it to the extra damage of the critical hit.

Description

Appearance

  • Half-Orcs are usually taller and bulkier than the average human standing at an average of just under six feet.
  • Half-Orc hair has a dark tone with mostly browns and blacks that turns slate gray or stark white with age.
  • Half-Orc skin varys by their Orcish parentage. Orcs come in a variety of colors such as shades of gray, tan, and green.
  • Most often Half-Orcs inherit the slitted pupil and color of Orcish eyes. Orc eyes range from common browns and greens to yellows and reds.
  • Another common gene Half-Orcs inherit from their Orcish parents is a jutting jaw and tusks that protrude above the lip. Some Half-Orcs living among other races file down their tusks as a way to appear less threatening, though this is looked down upon by those hailing from strongholds.

Homelands

Half-Orcs don't really have a place to call home, rarely are they accepted by either of their parentage, they live where their situation puts them among the other races of the world.   For a time during and after The War of Domination, Half-Orcs were banished from towns and villages. Those banished would form strongholds and would invite others who had been banished. Now there are many of these strongholds scattered across the lands, full of Half-Orcs.

Religion

While those living among other races believe what they want, The Half-Orcs who established strongholds believe in Kalagar the Champion, one of their own who ascended to Godhood and watches over them.
