Discovered just over 3 years ago by the Dwarven explorer Gadeus Hogenbrand. The Maelstrom Isles have since seen an explosion of people from all over the known world.

Not long after they were discovered word got out that the Islands were covered in ancient ruins. Ruins that were filled with mounds of treasure, and artifacts worth just as much or more. And where there is wealth, there are people flocking to get their grubby hands on it. And while the treasure gave the initial surge of excitement to the common people, the land was what got the noble’s attention. Rich fertile soil for crops and mountains with what was said to be a limitless supply of ore beneath them, beckoned to their greedy ears.

However, people have been flooding to the Isles for almost three whole years, and while settlements have been constructed, much of the Islands remain unexplored and unclaimed. This is due to the Isles being very dangerous. Scholars from prestigious universities who have gathered to study the artifacts and symbols left behind still have no idea what civilization left all these ruins. But whoever it was dealt with potent magics that have changed things. Monsters that have never been seen stalk the ruins, and lingering spells drive men mad, even the plants can be hungry for blood.

But this has not stopped people, still people come to the Isles seeking opportunity, knowing the danger. Still noblemen hire out hopeful adventurers to do their dirty work so they can bring their people to farm and mine safely. And progress is being made, just very slowly.

The city of Alabaster is the largest accomplishment the Isles have seen so far. The White City was discovered in the center of the Isles on the largest Island. Much of it was still intact though it was a shell with nothing inside, other than hordes of monsters. With a combined effort of all the governments in Western Rodain they were able to finally clear it out after almost a year of fighting. Now it is the seat of power in the Isles, all governments across the world have some sort of presence in Alabaster.

So now that you know a little about the Maelstrom Isles, welcome! This is a land of great fortune, where your ambitions can either get you incredibly wealthy, or dead in the water. So tread carefully but enjoy yourself.
