Nakrûl Virstoras
Travelling along the Darkwater Road, you turn a corner and come across a large stone cairn. It is made with rubble; you can see similar stone to the fortresses and roads you've been visiting on your travels. Out of curiosity, you go to take a closer look.
At the base of the cairn, you see a poem written on a plaque at the bottom:
In the light of the Twelve May they be scorned; In the light of the sun May they be burned; In the light of today May their past be forgotten; In the light of the sun May we be watchful. One name is written underneath: Nakrûl Virstoras. Remembering your history lessons, you shudder. "May we be watchful" indeed.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Like all vampires, the look of Nakrûl would have changed depending on the time since his last feeding. His scales and skin would pale over a long period of time, becoming more of a pale blue. His speed and agility would have been supernaturally heightened as well.
Special abilities
As a vampire, Nakrûl would have been capable of detecting the living by smell, as well as some basic spell-casting common to all vampires. As a grakonlar, he would also have been capable of exhaling a bolt of lightning if needed.
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Records of Nakrûl’s early life are hard to find, but his existence was first hinted at when he appeared in the List of Lords as the Lord of Khôrol in the year 3E 182. Whether or not he was infected with vampirism at that time was unknown.
He attended various tournaments and meetings with the various lords in Shakida, all the while infecting a few select lords that later became The Sanguine Glove. The Sanguine Glove was his own knightly order of vampires whose goals were to take over The Greatwood and enact the Bloodmoon Ritual, a powerful magical event that would have blocked out the sun and moon over the entire region.
Not long after the formation of the Sanguine Glove in 3E 275, it became evident to the Council of Britaxian Lords that Nakrûl and his cronies were artificially lengthening their lifespans. When a group of mages discovered the undead nature of the members of the organization, they were expelled from the Council and their lands were forfeited to other local lords. However, the vast majority of the Sanguine Glove and Nakrûl himself escaped capture by hiding in the depths of the Greatwood, where they slowly regathered their strength.
Nakrûl and his minions continued to draw in stray travellers, eventually regaining enough power to attack Khôrol in 3E 386. Regaining his seat of power, as well as access to his notes on the Bloodmoon Ritual, he began to slowly insert his lords back into their original homes. There, he also began preparing the ingredients and sacrifices needed to enact the Bloodmoon Ritual.
His efforts came to fruition in 3E 396, when they successfully completed the ritual. The skies above Khôrol and other nearby villages darkened and turned to night in the middle of the day. However, the ritual would only be ineffective for two years, as the event caused the local lords to rally and defeat Nakrûl’s armies in 3E 398. Stabbing him through the heart, the Baron of Shakida then destroyed the conduit used to power the ritual, causing the end of the conflict.
Mental Trauma
Nakrûl was described as suffering from very strong megalomania, believing he was the son of the god Yanüs. While he was indeed favoured by the Dead One, and therefore gifted a long life, he was very much mortal.
Morality & Philosophy
During his lifetime, he thought of vampires and other artificial immortal beings as the ultimate creature, the only non-divine species comparable to a god. Being one, of course, he believed himself above usual society and mannerisms, treating his non-vampire serfs as food and unworthy of his time.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
The dark heart of Nakrûl was only ever searching for eternal life and domination over the realms of Sedesta.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Nakrûl was considered charming by many people during his time as a lord, but this would have become even more apparent due to the unnatural attraction vampires give off.
He was also very adept at leadership, ruling over the Sanguine Glove with an iron fist.
Likes & Dislikes
He enjoyed the study of music, if eyewitness accounts of his castle at Khôrol are anything to go by.
Like many vampires, sunlight would have been unbearable to him, along with holy objects and clerics.
Social
Contacts & Relations
He was the leader of the Sanguine Glove and was responsible for the vast majority of the vampire activity in the Greatwood in that era.
He was also a dedicated "priest" of the god Yanüs, and so was instrumental in the revival of the Dead One's cult in Britaxia.
Religious Views
Nakrûl dedicated his life to the service of the god Yanüs, the Dead One and lord of the undead.
Hobbies & Pets
He wasn't a very talented musician, but he did own multiple shawms and was known to be involved with the Shakidan musician scene (for food, if for no other reason).
