Mental characteristics
Personal history
Sparé grew up in one of the small wooded areas of the Deranti Forest. Her village, Rótun, is located near a large chasm which was sacred in the pre-Empire times. As she got older, she wanted to learn more about the strange runes and symbols carved on the chasm walls, despite her town's fear of the creatures and monsters that would occasionally come out of the ravine.
Her interest in those runes led her to old archives in the capital once she was old enough to travel on her own. There, she found a few old texts and from there, was able to put together an understanding of Old Gratic runes. Within a short period of time, she knew enough to write her own and returned to the chasm of her youth
This unlocked the power of the runes, releasing magics that had slept dormant in the stone for half a century. She learned to harness that power and returned to the capital, seeking fortune and glory. She fell in with Art Dagesti and the other members of the Stalwart Shield. She's been travelling with them ever since.
Intellectual Characteristics
Sparé has a very powerful intellect, as shown by her cracking the code of the Old Gratic runes. This allows her to puzzle out motivations and emotions with an equally powerful speed.
Taboos
She has a fear of rats and spiders and anything else that scuttles across the ground.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Sparé never had a family because of her work with the Stalwart Shield, so the mercenary company has become her family. She will defend them and aid them to the best of her ability, especially as they've saved each other from certain death more times than they can count.
Savvies & Ineptitudes
Naturally, her knowledge of runes is nearly endless, and she can even invent new runes when the need arises. Due to the religious nature of these runes, she also has insight into the complexities of religious practices.
As the group's main healer, she has become very skilled with the application of healing salves and herbs and the bandaging of wounds.
Likes & Dislikes
She enjoys the company of her fellow members of the Stalwart Shield.
She still has an avid curiosity and she greatly enjoys having it pay off.
Dark dungeons and smelly basements remind her of the darkness of the chasm of her youth, so she tends to avoid them if she can help them.
Virtues & Personality perks
Sparé has many virtues that she aspires to:
- A curiosity and zest for life that feels infectious; and
- A no-nonsense manner when she needs to have it, but she isn't beholden to it.
Vices & Personality flaws
While she is commonly a solidly good person, she has a few weak points:
- Her fear of dark places and skittering creatures makes it difficult for the company to fulfill certain contracts; and
- A very bookish childhood means that social interaction isn't easy for her.
Hygiene
She isn't always the cleanest, but she is the most interested in keeping hair short or at least not unruly.
Social
Contacts & Relations
The Stalwart Shield has connections and relationships with many other mercenary companies and a long-standing relationship with the Imperial Council.
Family Ties
Sparé hasn't seen her family in a very long time, and she doesn't have a lot of need to go and see them oddly.
Religious Views
Sparé understands that her powers as a runekeeper are from a divine source, so she has made a significant study of religious texts in an attempt to discover the true source of her power. She worships the Four in the meantime, as many Gratic people do.
Social Aptitude
She isn't incredibly socially inclined, but she does what she can when she is in those sorts of circumstances. She has a odd lack of self-worth, perhaps even self-loathing. She has good manners.

When she is not on assignment with the Stalwart Shield, she is helping Art with finding new contacts, using her keen eye for interested parties aim Art in the right direction.
Speech
She has a high and slightly squeaky voice, rusty from long disuse.

She has much of it stored in various banks and caches in various towns in The Gratic Empire, but she has plans for building a nice library or school for other hoping to learn the runic powers that she has.
