The Voq'uk

The second species to achieve space travel in the Vellentari Expanse, the Voq'uk are warm-blooded amphibians native to the planet Jobas Prime in the Teperia System. Voq'uk possess a hyperactive metabolism; they think fast, talk fast, and move fast. To Voq'uk, other species seem sluggish and dull-witted, especially the goblins. Their metabolic speed unfortunately leaves them with a relatively short lifespan; with it being very rare to live over the age of 50.
Being the curious inventors they are, the Voq'uk are one of the only races that have "uplifted" other races to the level of space fairing. Once such race was the Draccin, they were thought to be the ones that brought Dragonkin from their primitive world to Groleuth some time before the gap, where after decades of experimenting, crossbreeding, and gene manipulation produced the Draccin.
They were also responsible for developing the countermeasure for the Draccin's mass conquering of worlds in the Vellentari Expanse and the eventual war that broke out between them and the Conclave raves.

Physical Description

The Voq'uks are a bipedal race of amphibians, with tall, elongated bodies well-suited for their high metabolism, and skeletons composed of more cartilage than those of other races such as humans. Voq'uk heads are long and thin, and have a pair of horns protruding from the top of their skulls. Skin varies in color, from bright reds and greens to the more common shades of blue or grey. Their blood is a greenish color. Voq'uks are androgynous, and exhibit no major facial differences between males and females.
Voq'uk eyes are large and oval and have thin membranes in place of eyelids. The pupils are a wide slit, oriented horizontally, and the irises can be dark green, purple, red, blue, or brown. Voq'uks can see ultraviolet at the short-wavelength end of the spectrum. Voq'uks blink upwards, rather than downwards as humans do. When Voq'uks roll their eyes, it is not a sign of disdain as with humans, but rather a response to situations where the thin protective membranes require extra help in defending against dryness or irritants.

Home World

Jobas Prime is the jungle covered homeworld of the Voq'uk. Pretty to look at, teeming with life, and uncomfortable to live in and dangerous to the unwary. The technophilic Voq'uk had significant pollution and waste problems early in the development of their society. They also embraced social solutions just as quickly, and through complex breeding rules, Jobas Prime now maintains a crowded but sustainable population. The planet tends to be wetter than Earth, and Voq'uk cities spare no expense to collect and provide fresh water, as one might expect from an amphibious species.

Society and Alignment

Voq'uk are known for their observational capability and non-linear thinking. This leads to an aptitude for research and espionage. They are always experimenting and inventing, while a respected race other races generally accept that they always know more than they are letting on.

Relations

While not as associative as the other Conclave races the Voq'uk maintain a seat on the council along with the Acarii and the Thelvon. Outside of that the Voq'uk are not a very outgoing race, mainly spending time as scientists, engineers, or politicians. They along with the Acarii have been instrumental in advancements to non-drift engines as they hope to someday limit how much of the drift is needed to traverse the stars.

Voq'uk have photographic memories and rarely forget a fact. Voq'uk receive a +2 racial bonus to any two Intelligence-based skills

High-speed Metabolism

The high-speed metabolism of Voq'uk causes them to live much faster than other races, but seem twitchy and impatient to non-Voq'uk. Voq'uk only need to spend one hour sleeping to gain the benefit of a full night’s rest, if they spend the rest of the 8 hours performing light activity. They also receive Improved Initiative (Combat) as a bonus feat at first level.

Adaptive Sight

Voq'uk come from a planet made up of mostly oceans and rainforests, as such their eyes have developed the ability to see ultraviolet at the short-wavelength end of the spectrum. They can see in Low-Light Vision perfectly, and have Darkvision up to 30 ft.

Non-Linear Thought

The Voq'uk excel at invention, using cutting-edge technology rather settle for anything less. As such the Voq'uk are trained in Engineering and posses a Tool Kit, Engineering Specialty.
