Broken Eternity

Everything you see in the Matrioska Multiverse may constitute spoilers for other worlds I'm working on. Proceed with caution!
Broken Eternity is a nihilist extremist group that exists only in isolated instances and pockets of unallocated space. Unhappy with being forced to live a seemingly eternal existence due to the machinations of Wurth Harkin and his followers in The Substrate, Broken Eternity agents seek to undermine the multiverse on a fundamental level and return to the comfort and peace of nonexistence.

Structure

Broken Eternity cells are isolated and independent of one another, with most consisting of only a few individuals when members choose to associate with one another at all. This serves to prevent their omnicidal nature from being discovered, as even an agent which allows themselves to be captured alive cannot divulge the full extent of the organization.

Public Agenda

As a secret organization, Broken Eternity's actions usually come to be known by their knock-on effects rather than any official statements. While Broken Eternity makes no public proclamations, their influence can be seen in crumbling instances, ambushes launched against construct and choir blanks performing their duties, and previously embodied blanks running wild with technology and knowledge of The Word that they should not have.   Examples of Broken Eternity working to destablilize instances include the rise of the Golden Cloister in the Candledusk Instance and the 125 Hands in the Manifold Sky instance. While Broken Eternity - like its enemies in the Substrate - strives to maintain absolute operational security, it does so out of a perverse desire for self-preservation rather than any concern for the psychological wellbeing of embodied blanks or desire to preserve the metaphysical stability of instances. Members reason that, for the insurgency against Mr. Harkin to be successful, the Breakers must survive long enough to see the Substrate ripped away from his grasp. To accomplish this mighty and terrible goal, Broken Eternity must remain undetected, for entities like the Allocator or roving heroes like Dep. Devin "Smokey" Burns would love to see the Breakers broken themselves.

History

Broken Eternity came into being when several elder blanks, including the blank of the former Grand Magus of Lepidos, became despondent over their inability to escape the Substrate. Wurth Harkin, they believed, had granted them immortality as a form of punishment, not as a chance for redemption. Ever since, the organization has worked from the shadows to unravel the Machine Father's works both to spite their 'captor' and to achieve nonexistence, hoping to take the rest of the multiverse with them as they go.
