Father Donovich

Father Donovich is a priest of the morning lord. His parish was in the Village of Barovia, where he assuaged the sorrows of the village folk. His son went with many of the villagers when the mad mage stormed Castle Ravenloft.   When his son did not return with the few survivors, the father mourned his son then attempted to bolster the villages faltering spirits. At night he pray to the morning lord, not just for relief from the oppressive presence of Strahd, but the return of his son. It took nearly a year, but his son returned. Unfortunately, his son was a perversion of his normal self. He had been bitten by a Vampire, and was only one day away from turning.   The Father locked his son in the church's basement, then used every spell and tincture at his disposal to drive away the Vampire's curse. It was to no avail - his son turned, and the blood lust took him. Father Donovich kept his son locked in the church basement, praying to the morning lord for a cure - an intervention - anything that would spare his son. Soon, noises began to come from the basement. The Father's son was starving for blood, and began begging. Then pleading. Finally screaming for blood. The townspeople fled from the abode of the morning lord for fear of hearing the son's tormented sounds.   Four hapless adventurers, kidnapped to Barovia for the amusement of Strahd, happened upon the father in his parish. After learning of the boy's condition, they attempted to confront him. There, they learned that the boy had been a plaything of Strahd before being bitten. Unable to bear the tormented situration, the adventurers convinced the Father to grant the boy a final peace.   His life in shambles, Father Donovich followed the adventurers as they gave him promise - an old Vistani soothsayer had predicted he might help Strahd meet his end.   After defeating a gargantuan tree creature the corrupted druids had summoned, the ragtag adventurers and friends met with the mountain Fae, who granted them a boon - an amulet from the Raven queen. The Father has been piecing together how the amulet works, ready to bring its potential to bear in the struggle against the Devil - Strahd von Barovich.
