A Kinetic Projectile Rifle or Ballistic Rifle commonly referred to as a Blast Rifle is one of the galaxy's most widespread weapons. Indeed, it is so widespread that development of hand held high speed ballistic platforms are considered in xenosociology one of the indicators of an alien civilization's progress to Tier 6 alongside advances like imaginary numbers, fertilizer agriculture or chemistry. Chemically propelled at first, Blast Rifles in use are usually electromagnetically propelled. Similarities stop there, with all sorts of designs, forms, number of barrels, ammunition etc.
Different types of Blast Rifle exist with each civilization but those used in Sol Space are usually small bullpup magazine fed ones that have selective single/burst/auto fire capabilities, 20 Round magazines and are designed for reliability and durability rather than maximum impact. Version designed to be used underwater or in vacuum usually use flechette rounds.
