A Blast Sword or Gun Blade is a mixed use weapon that consists of a large plasteel or duranium blade, with a pistol, usually a six swot revolver incorporated into the guard and grip. Blast Swords are not widespread within sol space but is a favorite among less than reputable Tzynn and among some units in the Tzynn military. As a rule the Tzynn prefer to fight with melee weapons in single combat or use ranged heavy flechette rifles outfitted with bayonets in tactical deployment. For their endless wars with the Ix'Idar a side arm that can function both in melee and at short range was necessary so Tzynn gunsmiths combined a wide guard short, heavy chopper with a powerful slug thrower.
Different types of blast swords exist, with the concept being highly popular among weapon collectors from several races. Recently the weapons, in their more elegant human variation have become a preferred weapon among hyperlane raiders and pirates, their main purpose being more to menace than to do actual harm.
