Gauss Launcher
"Give it a second, allow the optics to compensate for the distance."
Basic Gauss Rifle Training A Magnetic Accelerator Gun or Gauss Launcher is a long distance tactical weapon that uses technology similar to most modern blast rifles, magnetic acceleration, but at a much higher scale. A Gauss gun can accelerate a round to incredible speeds, making high power launchers accurate and deadly at up to 3 km, making it a single shot interdiction weapon. The magnetic acceleration process tends to affect any on-board projectile electronics so depleted uranium or, for some higher end models, neutronium slugs are used. The Gauss launcher is in effect a small railgun and with enough power and heavy slugs it can penetrate mech or tank armor, batter down deflectors and shields and even penetrate some ship plating. The primary drawbacks of the Gauss launcher are its weight, its recharge time and the weight of its power supply and ammunition. These are all reasons why you tend to find Gauss launchers mounted on heavy exos, mechs or light armor rather than being carried around by infantry, with the exception of snipers. Gauss launchers are dangerous weapons with a tendency to overheat and explode so extra care should be taken in their use and maintenance.
