Humans
Humans
"I said I come in peace, friend, I never said anything about coming unarmed."
Mostly hairless, bipedal mammals descended from apes, Humans are non-threatening on their own, lacking any kind of fangs, claws or hard appendages. Yet this mostly harmless species has a long shadowy past of internecine warfare that threatened the very existence of the species and their homeworld. Today's humans are curious, intrepid explorers and quick problem solvers, either at the negotiating table or with a pulse rifle.
Humans stand at about 1.6 to 2 meters tall and average around 85 kilograms, with males having slightly bulkier builds than females. They live 90 years, on average. Humans are not shy about body modification of any type and many have tattoos, piercings or cybernetics. Neither particularly strong, smart nor tough humans do tend to have above average reflexes and a penchant for quick pattern recognition and analysis. They make good pilots, sharpshooters and diplomats but above all excel at flying by the seat of their pants and surviving against long odds. Diversity is a point of pride among humans who are highly individualistic at both a personal and subgroup level. Humans love to travel and it does not take much for an loosely-organized group to strike out on its own, to establish a new settlement or seek its fortune.
Despite this diversity, sub-species among humans are a rare thing and one that has only recently started to become a issue with the appearance of the so-called Terrans, or Prime-Humans, enhanced and cybernetically modified, and the rarer but more influential genetically perfected Ur-Humans.
