Mote Rail
"The Mrail? Take the Largest Gauss Gun you can find, replace the slug with a Tungsten-Neutronium Rod and stick a live grenade at the bottom, right next to your head. That's the Mrail."
UN Marine Drill Sergeant
The Mote Rail, Volatile Mote Assisted Magnetic Accelerator Gun or Mrail Is a heavy hybrid weapon that combines the advantages and disadvantages of explosive weapons and Gauss guns. the Mrail fires heavy Tungsten rods, reinforced with a neutronium alloy which are scaled down versions of the planetary bombardment rods fired by Gauss Artillery. In order to propel these heavy rods at ballistic speeds the Mrail uses a hybrid system of magnetic acceleration and the detonation of a small volatile mote container inside a blast chamber at the back of the weapon.
The result of firing a Mrail is a small localized penetrating explosion at the point of impact, point which can be up to a Km away. The impact is enough to obliterate infantry, destroy a tank or cripple artillery. Mrails are tricky to use and dangerous at times. The ammo rods are very heavy and usually no more than a dozen are carried by a two man Mrail team and the launcher itself is dangerous in the event of failure or of enemy fire on the device, which can ignite the motes.
