An Rip Saw or Chain Cutter is an usually electric powered implement that uses rotation and a series of cutting teeth to slice through any number of materials. Originally used on earth for cutting plant matter it became a staple implement of the harvester, scavenger or miner due to it being able to serve as a weapon on short notice  while also being extremely useful as a tool. Rip saws have become favored weapons among slavers and  pirates. Usually turned by the latter two into proper weapons Rip saws are more a weapon of opportunity in general and are more often used as a threat than an actual weapon. When they are employed, however, the end result is often sickening.



Rip Saws are used everywhere as tools and have found a niche as the weapon of psychos and diligent miners. When used as weapons the Chain Cutter is usually modified to resemble something that reflects the name of Rip Saw. Usually the drive coil is replaced with a more powerful one or is even hypercharged, the power intake is modified to take military grade power cells and the cutting belt is replaced with a more durable titanium or diamond finish duranium one. In the most extreme cases the flat cutting teeth of a regular chain cutter are replaced with hooked diamond finish teeth, more suited to cutting organic matter, though at that point any pretense of the Rip Saw not being a weapon is long gone.
