High Holiness Dalathalian
Archbishop of The Church of Peace
Archbishop of The Church of Peace
The Pope of The Church of Peace, His High Holiness Dalathalian, is a consummate manipulator of people. He knows just when to use charm and wit, and when to use veiled threats. Rarely does he need to exercise the immense power of the Knights of Peace, a veritable army of true believers dedicated to the Church and the Pope, but use them he does when he must.
High Holiness Dalathalian is quite adept at telling not only a person, but whole groups and populations what they want to hear and getting them to do what he wants in the way he wants, always as what is best for them, the Church and the Arrangement of Peace. Even when it is not what is best for the people.
On several occasions His High Holiness has convinced the entire populations of towns or villages to rise up against their local Lord or Lady, eventually leading to their capitulation or death. Often this was due to a slight against the Church or His High Holiness. These minor nobility were made examples of and the message was quite effective as it is not very often at all that anyone speaks out against the Church or speaks ill of His High Holiness Dalathalian, not within the country of The Arrangement of Peace.
His High Holiness plays powerful merchants and rich Houses one against the other. His involvement is often suspected, but never proven. Those in power are often very unaware of the influence of His High Holiness.
His manipulations are effective even outside of The Arrangement of Peace. In turn 301 PB war broke out for 30 days between the kingdoms of Kenitt and Selioria due to rumors spread at the command of His High Holiness, resulting in the reacquisition by The Arrangement of Peace of the city of Mandricourt and the area surrounding it from Selioria. The action required little to no involvement of the armies of the Arrangement.
His High Holiness Dalathalian is in fact, the original Bishop Gunresum, now over 300 years old. Even though The Church holds that magic not used by clergy of the church is forbiden and evil, and that magic can only be used by those ordained by the Gods, Bishop Radros Keloi Gunresum discovered his magic at a young age and hid it his entire life due to his mother and grandmother having an intense hatrid of magic. His mother and grandmother were ultra-religious, worshiping the Gods when they still walked umong mortals with a fevered devotion. The Blessing and the subsequent loss of tthe Gods from the mortal realm affected both mother and grandmother immensily.
Radros worked with two others to establish The Church of Peace, developing its tenants of magice being only for the Gods and clergy of the Church (thus allowing Radros to use magic), only lotret is allowed and then only for Church approved types of use. Lotrar is reserved, in the eyes of the church only for the Gods, and specific church clergy, also for expressly approved church use.
Radros discovered a way to steal the magic spark from others at some point. This transfer of magic to himself killed the person he stole it from and prolonged his life each time he stole. Radros hatched a plan to kill the two other founders of the church and extend his own life so he could continue to be the Pope of the church. He engineered church doctrine to eventually list only himself as the founder of the church and he devised a scheme to appear to change to another person every once in a while so that it was disguised that the Pope was the same person for year after year.
