Every five turns the bright object in the sky known as the Changebringer comes its closest to Rit, so close that it passes between Rit and the planet Rit orbits. The common people of Rit don't know very much about planets and moons, but they do know enough to realize their world orbits another far larger body and it in turn orbits the sun. The learned among them, mostly Wizards, know that all of the lights in the night sky are other celestial bodies and that they all follow a pattern and can be classified by how they behave and what they are made of.
The large bright orb in the sky is the planet Rit orbits and is called by most Pea'alay, protective mother in the old language. It is a large planet consisting mostly of clouds and gas. Rit orbits around this planet and it orbits around a giant burning ball of gas whose heat and light allow Rit to support life.
There are other planets, with moons like Rit, but little is known about them besides the basics gleaned by Wizards over thousands of years.
One body that Wizards and common folk alike are the most interested in is the Changebringer, an object in the sky that only appears to the naked eye for part of one turn every 5 turns and when it does there is great cause for celebration among all the people of Rit. This small object grows closer and closer to Rit each night until it passes between Rit and the large globe in the sky. The Changebringer passes across the face of Pea'alay and trails behind it a bright plume, like a glowing foxes tail, seen bright even in the full sunlight.
The plume grows and brightens as Changebringer finishes crossing in front of Pea'alay and the next night the sky is bright with streaks and colors as the Renewal begins. Celestial energy and material fall on Rit like a refreshing rain on a dry desert and the sky dances with light and energy. Lightning streaks across the sky as waves of blue, purple, green, red, and gold dance across the night sky. Silver specks dance in the air and fall on the land, sinking quickly out of sight. The denizens of Rit revel in the renewal of the magic of Rit. For the night, and several days afterward, magic is at its strongest and even those who have only a passing feeling of magic feel it strongly. Spells cast on this night and in the seven nights and days following it are especially strong. Babies born during this time are always strong in magic.
This is The Renewal, the time of magic renewal for all of Rit.
Grand celebrations are held during this time and almost all normal daily activity is halted during this time. Wizards perform special spells under the boost of this renewed and strengthened magic. Experiments that have been planned and setup for years prior are executed and their results recorded for posterity, or they go horribly wrong with the strength and create huge catastrophes.
Even the birds and animals celebrate in their own ways, huge flocks of birds joining together to fly through the sky filled with power. Animals mate in a frenzy, driven by the feelings of power in the air.
This is also the time when Demons now do their best to break the Blessing and cross the border between the Demon Lands and the Blessing Lands. They have not succeeded yet, but may some day.
Records indicate that the Gods themselves celebrated when they walked among mortals. Hosting great gatherings of Gods and mortals, serving the finest wines and best food that could be had.
