The noble pirate

Summary

Captain Edward Jones was what many would call a pirate, but he himself thought that made him sound uncivilized. And he was far from uncivilized. In fact, he treated every ship he came aboard with respect, never damaging it more than he had too. The captains and their crew, if they cooperated, had all the right to sail home to their families with a lighter ship. His own ship, The Tree Sparrow was in great condition.
An unhappy ship doesn't care if its captain drowns, while a happy ship will give her last breath trying to save you
— Edward Jones
His nickname slowly became The noble pirate, who treated people like people while taking everything they owned. As his reputation spread more and more ships simply gave up when the saw The Tree Sparrow on the horizon since they knew it would let them off easier than trying to fight. Over the years there were fewer and fewer stories of Edward until he seemingly stopped his pirate ways. Noone's sure why he disappeared.

Historical Basis

There are several eyewitnesses talking about Edward, and across them, all the descriptions seem to match. It's therefore generally accepted that he has existed at some point, even though exactly what he's done is harder to pin down.

Spread

Everyone who've ever traveled the seven seas has heard about Edward and his ship, even though fewer and fewer can claim to have met him.

Variations & Mutation

While Captain Edward remains the same, stories of his adventures outside raiding ships vary as wildly as the ones of fiction. According to some, he's searched the seven seas for treasure, others he's charmed every noble lady along the coast.

In Art

"The tale of the noble pirate" is one of the most popular songs in bars across the coast. There have also been a few theatre performances related to the myth.

Author's Notes

Hello! And thank you for reading my article!
This was made during the Summer Camp 2018 challenge. I won't be editing any of these to keep them for looking back on. That being said some I'm really not happy with, so I'll most likely put up an edited version at some point. If I do you will be able to find the link on the top of the page
