Grand Tribunal

The Grand Tribunal is highest court in the Castellan Kingdoms. A case that cannot be resolved among the involved parties themselves is judged in the Tribunal, as well as cases of national or international importance.

Architecture

The Grand Tribunal is located in the Capital, facing Castellan Square. It towers over the boutiques and guildhalls. The front is supported by twelve pillars, each representing one of the gods. It is the workplace of most of the Capitols notaries, as well as a library for advocates with extensive works both on the Divine Rights, Canon Law, Imperial Law and Civil Law.   There are two courtrooms in the Grand Tribunal. The Public Tribunal is the grandest, with marble reliefs of Castellite history decorating the walls. A sizable gallery allows the public to spectate. There's also a smaller, private Tribunal for cases best kept out of the publics gaze.

Functions

Neither of the courtrooms in the Grand Tribunal building are frequently used. Most matters are solved among the parties involved, with cases between Houses often solved either privately or within the House of Peers, and cases between guildmembers solved by the associated guild. The most notable type of case that is exclusively handled by the Grand Tribunal is treason. Traitors are often handled by the Public Tribunal as a form of public humiliation, and being sent to the Private Tribunal is usually reserved for treason that is not straightforward or is vital to be kept a secret.   Another service handled at the Grand Tribunal is notarization. Documents can be signed and witnessed for all kinds of business, be it purchases or contracts. The library also holds important documents such as birth registrations, ownership accounts, and public contracts. Wedding licenses, guild charters, and business permits are also handled by the notaries, so the building sees a constant stream of visitors regardless of the disuse of the Tribunal rooms.
