Xo Dian
Xo Dian
Who is the current head of your lineage? How do you love and frustrate each other?
Siu Dian is the lineage's patriarch.
Xo loves and respects Siu's ability to encompass every aspect of the business, while showing a tender side to Xo and letting it get in the way sometimes without Toh's oversight and perspective. Siu's focus on preparing Xo despite his age and wants however is a source of great frustration.
Siu loves Xo unconditionally, but is burdened by the role he has to play and must put on Xo. While he appreciates the fresh take of a young eye, he is frustrated by Xo's rebelliousness and inability to take it as seriously as he does. What close member of your lineage wants to revolutionize it?
Siu is focused on continuing the business as it is, Toh wants to move it more towards functionality and progress to support the Earth Kingdom's infrastructure over creating art pieces. What do you carry that reminds you of the place most associated with your lineage?
A ceramic hair pin decorated with a tigerdillo, the family's crest. What part of your lineage’s identity is important and valuable to you as a person?
Their ability to affect progress through the non-traditional bending and split focus between infrastructure and culture. Why are you committed to this group or purpose?
Someone who earned his respect has died, those who remain saved his life and have taught him valuable lessons. He is invested in this struggle, and his survival.

Personal history
Son of Siu and Toh Dian, surrogate mother Shon Dao cemented the Dian and Dao families uniting. The Dian family is a middling rich and influential nobility in Ba Sing Se earned through generations of exquisite use of earth bending (and in the earliest generations, also fire bending) to create refined works of ceramics, both for practical and artistic fortune.
Siu trained Xo in the family business of ceramics making through the nontraditional earth bending style of mixing slurry and paint, though Xo had trouble getting away from the artistic nature of the techniques and into the practical world of managing the business and the day to day act of mass production.
When Toh came home from his work as a military strategist, he and Siu discussed Xo's apparently lacking discipline in his education. They brought the matter up to Xo after deciding on a few options on how to shape him into who they needed their heir to be. Between Toh's firm nature and Xo's love of expression and freedom they fought, Xo taking their stance as a show of disrespect of his achievements and their control of his path as a risk of his happiness.
Siu and Toh decided on drastic measures. Xo's freedoms were indeed taken away, his allowance and freedom to leave the estate gone until a deal could be struck for him to shadow the Avatar and learn the discipline forged in seeing, and surviving, the world.
