Session 66 - Fawnelle

General Summary

Gorgoroth rushed into the conference room, demanding to know what Qix had done to him. S’thom and Ifrit had other questions. Why was she here? Did Uanna's patron know Qix was here?   Yes, Lady Antilla | Fiend Patron knew that the gloura was here representing the Archfey, The Queen of Air and Darkness. Apparently, the two patrons wanted their agents to meet again, but this time in a neutral location where the fey couldn’t trick the fiends.   Gorgoroth was not happy with Qix’s answers. She was either being evasive or she was stupid or she had no control over the power that flowed through her from the Queen of Air and Darkness. The dragonborn wanted to know what had happened to his memories. Did the Queen grant his escape and took his mind as the price? Was a wish unknowingly granted?   The gloura only smiled and told him she didn’t know. His threats went unanswered.   Eventually, Lat’num pressed the team to move on to their original goal: finding Kylar Bearcharger. To do that, they needed to get to the Beastlands, one of the outer planes. There was a portal to Beastlands in Fawnelle, one of the sixteen Gatetowns that surrounded Sigil, each of which had a portal to one of the planes.   Luckily for the party, Bessie Bovine, the sentient oxen who had guided them through the City of Doors, was heading home anyway. She agreed to escort them to Fawnelle at no extra charge.   Bessie introduced the Party to Whiffle Toesniffer, a strange sentient mole with a star-shaped nose. Whiffle offered each traveller 50 gold pieces to smell them. From the scents, she was able to get a picture of all the places they had been to (going back months—possibly years) and the type of folk they’d interacted with. A few of the adventurers accepted and took their payments. Ifrit offered to pay Whiffle for information on his father, General Garuda. It had been ten years since Ifrit had seen his father, but Whiffle remembered similar brimstone scents on a traveller who had done business with Tideweaver here in town.   The Party followed behind a funeral procession to the local swamp where Henry, a deceased zebra, was paid last respects by the community. The body was taken to the water at the conclusion of the ceremony and knife-wielding tentacles processed the corpse, separating the meat from the bones. The products were given back to the members of the community and S’thom told her friends that the circle of life was respectfully fulfilled here.   Tideweaver was a swamp octopus. He hadn’t done business with the brimstone-smelling individual, but his buddy The Circle had. The Circle was mute, but wrote his answers down on placcards to answer each of their questions. The woman had been looking for information on the Beastlands—the arctic regions in particular. The Circle had sent her to see Glimmerfang, an ancient resident from a past season.   S’thom and Red bought ice-silk cloaks to prepare for their journey to the Beastlands. First though, the Party visited Glimmerfang. The ice spider’s cave was buried deep underground, where only a few blocks of last season’s ice remained. Lat’num procured some fresh meat for their host, in payment of their intrusion.   Yes, someone had been by two weeks ago—a succubus. She had wanted to know all about the creatures in the arctic regions of the Beastlands. Glimmerfang had told her how to use the portal in large tree in the center of town and about the creatures. Many beasts were sentient. All had a higher intelligence than animals found on other planes. Glimmerfang finished his meal in silence then stopped answering their questions. Had he died?   The group ascended from the cave and walked to the large tree in the middle of Fawnelle. There they looked into the portal to the Beastlands and pictured a snowy landscape with clear skies, pine trees, a frozen pond nearby, and a single mountain peak in the distance.
