Session 60 - Cyclone
General Summary
Four territorial manticores swooped down from the debris cloud and displayed signs of aggression. Gorgoroth tried to communicate to the beasts—tried to explain that they were invited by Windrex—but the monsters did not understand. They were aware that the Golden Dragon airship was welcome, but could not come to terms with the idea that humanoids inside the gith/goblin-engineered craft could have any relation to the luxurious celestial ornithopter.
Two of the manticores attacked while two more watched from above. The attackers soon made a hasty retreat when Ifrit unleashed a series of brutal spells.
The Party had to work together to successfully navigate the debris field (the odds of which were 3,720 to 1), make in-fight repairs, keep their catatonic pilot alive and find a safe route between the floating earthburgs islands. As they climbed, they began to see how the islands once connected together. The ruins of Ustraternes, the flying palace built by the Golden One, was now splintered. Its pieces made up the heart of the Cyclone Citadel.
The Blundercoil landed on the topmost island. It featured a large keep, one of the few structures still intact from the ancient fortress. A large scarred man carried a wounded manticore towards the keep. The Party called to him but he ignored them. They were intercepted by the other manticores who worried for their wounded friend. Red cast Healing Spirit and the manticore bounded from the flesh golem’s grasp once its wounds had healed.
The golem unknowingly led them into the ground floor of the keep. The large room was decorated with many valuable treasures collected by the mighty blue dragon Windrex. The Party fought the temptation to loot and instead called out for Diggs, who was in charge while Windrex was away, according to the manticores.
Diggs was a kobold whose lair was dug beneath a laboratory. Their initial meeting did not go well, but Diggs was fascinated by Lat’num.
