The second war of the void has ended and with it has passed the age of heroes. It is now the Thirteenth Century of the Fourth Age, and even though the world has long since been saved, all is not well. The war claimed many gods, along with heroes and nations beyond count. Since its end, civilization has spent centuries attempting to rebuild in the ashes of old empires. These attempts to rebuild have been made far more difficult and timely by the scars inflicted during the wars. The greatest of these scars is known to the nations of Northern Asai as the War Waste, an immense wilderness cutting the north and south in two. A land untamed and filled to overflowing with monsters {the likes that fill the bravest hearts with fear}, mad wizards{locked in their towers}, savage tribes {blood thirsty and flesh hungry} and the ever-present threat of The Touch. With the great Agis mountains to keep out the threats from the War Waste, there remain only a few unsealed passes left to allow for the vital trade routes South.
In the largest of these passes sits the independent city of Four-Gates. Its location at the northern end of The Pure Road {safest route south} has allowed it to become the center of commerce and culture for a vast portion of Asai. The wealth earned has led to an immense and elaborate expansion making it now the largest city in Northern Asai. This growth attracted people from across the world, not only traders and merchants of the past but mercenaries, fledgling sorcerers, priests, and would-be heroes, all arriving with the hope of making their fame and fortunes. This increase in size and prosperity has made this center of trade a prize to be won and many now seek to claim it.
One such claimant is the Codex of the Auric Sword a fanatical faith on the rise. Its words spread hatred and bigotry across the north as its Grand Hierophant seeks to gain the immeasurable wealth of Four-Gates. Wealth and position allowed him to spread his faith both across the north and even south to the lands beyond the wastes.
The Kingdom of Kreoden stands as another more immediate threat as its king presses a long-forsaken claim on the city. Desperate to halt the fading of his nation King Danathrax has called his army and marches in secret on the city.
You find yourselves either willingly or otherwise marching in the army now descending on the unsuspecting free city of Four-Gates. What stories await, who are the actors yet to enter the stage? Will, theirs be a story of heroic triumph or tragic defeat? When history is written, what tales will be told of the fourth age?
