The Moving Mass

The world is shrouded in a constant torrent of unforgivable, harsh weather. The only solace of the common people is ensured by the powerful upper class, the mages.   Every magic user is required by law to enlist their services to the government, since the forces of its users are important to control and contain.   To survive these perilous storms the populace has built strange slanted buildings to withstand the awesome power of nature - and perhaps other threats, lurking behind the grey clouds.   In the wilderness, many dangers exist. Some real, some imagined. The fear of the unknown is widespread among the people. The commoner rarely ventures beyond the city limits, fearing for his life.   Scholars speak of a sudden shift in the magnetic poles, while priests claim sin and decadence angered the gods, bringing divine punishment - nonetheless, something happened. The world, once a gentle place offering fertile lands and game to hunt, is now unstrung and hostile.   The known expanses are small in comparison to the unexplored stretches of land neighboring "the frontier", an ever-moving border, where daring explorers erect series of outposts never yielding to the storms, pushing forward into the uncharted and mystical lands of The Moving Mass.
