The Celestial Union
The Celestial Union was once a virtuous organization that drew its arcane arts from divine conduits to preserve cosmic balance across the spheres. Based on principles of harmony and unity, its peacekeepers used wisdom and restraint, only engaging corruption with enough restoring force to reestablish equilibrium.
But since the undead god fragment known as the Shadow escaped banishment, its vile unmaking influence has corrupted many institutions. The Celestial Union especially suffered insidious internal rot - its new leadership embracing domination and punishment over temperance. They now impose harsh order over spelljamming ports, pressuring worlds to pay tithes and fealty while consolidating power.
Pockets of original devotees upholding the Union’s enlightened origins still scattered the stars. But the public face has warped into militaristic magocracy bent on forced conversion of all arcanists and roguish realms to their strict occult dogma. Many chafe under their warding glyphs and magitech arsenal imprisoning planets in networked bubbles claiming to be for protection. What they truly shield echoes of the old divine song from, none can yet say. But their promises of security increasingly come at costs to liberty and conscience.
