Session Three

General Summary

After watching the murder of the slave the adventurers were quickly approached in the chaos by Sihvet Harr, a human membr of the Skaug Thieves' Guild. She immediately saw through their disguises and let them know that they would need to find a place to hide from the guards who would inevitably find them out. She offered them harbor at the Thieves' Guild safehouse as long as they would perform a favor for her. That favor, as it turned out, was to steal a ring from one of the prisoners, a Goliath named Bearkiller.   The party agreed and sneaked into the longhouse (Barish scouted ahead after transforming himself into a weasel) where the ring was contained and snatched the container that it was in. They were quickly discovered and ran from their pursuers. Barish turned into a bear. They survived a battle with some of the camp guards and eventually made their way safely to the Thieves' Guild safehouse where they found Sihvet Harr waiting. They handed the ring over to her and she immediately vanished without a trace. When she returned, she revealed that the ring they had stolen for her was an artifact known as the Ring of Loss. It could transport them briefly to the source of their greatest loss. She asked if they'd like to give it a try. Raistlin agreed to do so and took the ring.   Disappearing from the room, he found himself in a vast underground chamber where a single shaft of light from above lit a raised pedestal on which rested the compass that the group had lost. The room was filled with water but had a narrow circular path around the outside with spokes leading in toward the compass. As Raitlin began to approach it he was attacked by a ruthless siren that appeared to be guarding the compass. After taking some damage he was whisked back to the tent. He revealed his encounter with the compass and the siren to his companions. They each decided to take a turn with the ring.   Once all of the party had experienced the effects of the ring's power, Sihvet revealed that they had caught the interest of Altas, the head of the Thieves' Guild. Altas could offer them passage off the island and perhaps information regarding their missing possession. He also offered them access to the labyrinthine sewers beneath Skaug, which would conduct them secretly to any part of the city. He wanted to meet them in person in the Merchant Quarter to discuss his proposal. They would find him at the safehouse there, marked with a blood red banner.   The group agreed and slipped into the sewers. As they entered the foul smelling environs, though, they were immediately confronted by a creeping, crawling horror with a thousand chanting mouths.
