Orthoskin

Orthoskin is a bioware augmentation that strengthens a person's skin from all sorts of damage. In some aspects, orthoskin can be considered better than dermal armor, such as the ability to regenerate itself without the use of nanites and the fact that it is Indistinguishable from regular skin.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Orthoskin is a very excellent augmentation, providing armor without being noticed.   Components: Orthoskin's bio-fibers are intricately woven into a matrix that enhances the skin's structural integrity and durability. These fibers are composed of advanced biomaterials that possess remarkable tensile strength and flexibility, allowing them to withstand a wide range of impacts and forces. Despite their exceptional strength, these bio-fibers are incredibly lightweight, ensuring that the overall weight of the skin remains within normal parameters. This revolutionary design not only provides superior protection against physical harm but also seamlessly integrates with the natural texture and appearance of regular skin. As a result, Orthoskin offers individuals a discreet and highly effective personal armor solution that is virtually indistinguishable from their own skin.   Implantation: Orthoskin is implanted by using nanomachines to weave the bio-fibers into the skin. These nanomachines are implanted into the skin via a machine, and the biomaterials are implanted and are pumped into the skin. The nanomachines then work the biomaterials into the skin naturally. After completing the process, the machine retrieves the nanomachines, cleans them, and seamlessly integrates the biomaterial with the skin. Now the skin can naturally heal itself with the biomaterials.   Abilities: There are different levels of orthoskin. Each increased level corresponds with an increased level of protection.   Level 1: Level 1 of orthoskin is the least protective out of all the levels. Only allowing for the stoppage of knives and arrowheads, anything more than that will most likely pierce level 1 orthoskin, but the positive is that it will most likely be heavily reduced in terms of kinetic energy.   Level 2: Level 2 of orthoskin is much more protective than level 1. It allows for the stoppage of most low-level pistol calibers, such as 45 ACP, and it can withstand multiple before breaking the skin.   Level 3: Level 3 of orthoskin is vastly more protective than the other two levels. Heavy pistol calibers are required to actually harm them, and multiple rounds are required to effectively pierce the skin.   Level 4: Level 4 of orthoskin is drastically more protective than the other three levels. At this point, it requires light caliber rifle rounds to effectively pierce the skin, and it requires multiple hits.   Level 5: Level 5 of orthoskin is massively more protective than the rest of the levels. It requires medium caliber rifle rounds to effectively pierce the skin, and it requires multiple hits.   Orthoskin, Unlike Dermal armor, can naturally heal itself after damage, usually leaving no scars unless the wound was truly catastrophic. There are also different subtypes of orthoskin Such as dragon skin, which uses a flame resistant biopolymer to enhances protection against fire, Sharkskin, which in is densely covered with denticles, small cartilage outgrowths that make the skin as rough as sandpaper and provide it with superior hydrodynamic properties, when not wearing clothing or armor. Electroshock, For This Augmentation, stacks of electroplaque similar to those found in electrical implants under the skin, allowing the user to deliver powerful jolts of electricity from any part of the user’s exposed skin. Smart Insulation: Making use of the body’s own heat regulation mechanism that causes sweating, this enhancement uses the same feedback proteins to alter the size and density of air pockets in the deepest layer of the orthoskin to enhance or reduce the thermal insulation that the skin provides. The recipient is comfortable throughout a wide range of temperatures

Orthoskin requires a license in order to be implanted, but other than that, it is relatively easy to get Orthoskin. Orthoskin is sometimes used to solve skin cancers and as a stronger substitute for skin after it is lost from an accident, among other reasons. However, civilians can only get low-levels of orthoskin, up to level two. While combat related professions can get all the way up to level four or higher.
