El Viejo Post office
El Viejo Post Office is a historic post office in downtown Modesto. Built-in 1933, the post office houses murals depicting pastoral scenes. The building's roof is made entirely of terra cotta tiles. Despite its age before the great war the united states post office kept the building open as a functioning post office. Around 2062 in efforts to maintain staffing and delivery standards the El Viejo Post office took to purchasing Mr. Handy Robots and Eyebots to Deliver to the Downtown areas these robots had contractually negotiated special software.
Postal Unions like the NALC and APWU contested the use of these robots. Following union grievances and contract disputes managed to keep a ratio of robots to actual human workers until much of the delivery staff had been replaced in the El Viejo Station. When the Bombs dropped in 2077, all living workers had fled to shelters or were killed shortly after as the nuclear winds swept across the central valley, reaching the city of modest. It is understood that many of the eyebots and Mr. Mailman robots continued to run the facility for nearly 10 years after the bombs dropped but as raiders and scavengers made their way through the city many of these robots got scrapped and destroyed. A lone surviving Mr. Handy Robot "Rusty" Now Maintains what remains of the structure.
For Almost as long as the El Viejo Post office existed, parts of the building were sublet to other federal entities like The United States Postal Inspections Service and more notably the Federal Bureau of Investigation had offices rumored to be below the Post Office. Around 2058 a lease was signed with Vault Tech for the underground structures and Vault 69 went under construction in 2058 under considerable secrecy. It was rumored this Vault may have been intended for certain High profile clients or exclusive individuals but much of this was speculation.
