Tony Mars woke to his divine heritage 19 years ago in the wake of 9/11 while he was working as a First Responder at the World Trade Center. Lieutenant Anthony Mars was working with his National Guard Unit when the 21 year old realised he was a severed aspect of Ares. All of a sudden a flaming chariot descended from the heavens and the sky grew dark as the sun left it. Apollo grabbed up the soldier and whisked him off to Olympus to wherr Mars had been searching for him.
The War God wanted Tony to return to his duties as an aspect, but Tony bargained for 10 years as he had just began a relationship with a beautiful woman, and Ares could relate. Tony met Mona while working as a bodyguard hired to protect her when the Teflon Don needed a deniable guard. He then worked his way into the Don's confidence and became a made man. Mostly he was officially a bodyguard for Mr. Gottii but unofficially he broke a lot of knee caps in the name of John Gotti and killed even more. In 10 years, Tony bargained for 4 more as he now had a son with this woman and though Mars has always been noted as one of the better fathers of the pantheon, he considered a boy grown at 13 and capable of providing for his mother. The years were bought on the condition that the boy would become a Scion of Mars, though Tony bargained for Jonny to live his youth until 18; and he had to be blooded before Tony left. The God of War needed to be certain the boy would be a warrior.
Tony began working with the FBI to implicate his boss, John Gotti, under the RICO act in return for immunity for himself, Mona and Jonny, and after 3 years, RICO was ready to move. Tony got Mona out of the house on the pretense of shopping, and sent a signal to Jonny to get out of school. THen he dropped her at the Jet and went to his apartment to collect Jonny as he knew by prearrangement that it was where the boy was going.
He arrived at the apartment and was heading up the stairs when he heard a tremendous crash from his apartment. He kicked open the door, gun in hand and saw jonny had successfully disarmed one of Gotti's men. Tony coldly put two bullets from his 9 mm Fenris into the goon's skull; the second one actually passed through and sprayed brains all over the place. Jonny was shocked and Tony took the opportunity to use divine manipulation on his son to remove his natural inhibition against murder and told him to kill the other one with the disarmed pistol. Johnny complied and Tony hoped the boy would be ok later when the influence wore off, but at least he had fulfilled his promise to Ares, the boy was blooded.
He tried to make light of it by taking the kid for cheese burgers, thinking, wrongly, that it would ease his son's conscience, but that backfired when Mona saw the Jonny sprayed with blood and threw a fit. Tony decided not to tell her about the shooting.
He spent the better part of ten months with Mona and Jon at Mona's parent's in Italy, who were very wealthy in the wine business. Then he made up some bullshit excuse that he knew Jonny was too smart to buy and left to join Ares. 5 years later and he is now tasked with the visitation of his son.
